Derbyshire Climate Coalition\ncampaigners would like to give you an update on what has been happening. The\nfollowing councils have declared a Climate Emergency (the dates with embedded\nlinks to council papers are shown in brackets).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Derby City (22\/05\/2019<\/a>); passed unanimously but no date, little follow up action but it has agreed to appoint a paid climate change coordinator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amber Valley Borough (24\/07\/2019<\/a>); Motion passed for net zero by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chesterfield Borough (17\/07\/2019<\/a>); failed to include\ndate of 2030 or accept amendment to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Derbyshire Dales District (30\/05\/2019<\/a>); Motion strengthened\nand unanimous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

High Peak Borough (15\/10\/2019<\/a>); Motion passed unanimously\n– 2030 date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NE Derbyshire District (08\/07\/2019<\/a>); Motion amended (80%\nreduction by 2030 with aim of 100%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Derbyshire District (27\/06\/2019<\/a>); Unanimous but watered\ndown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THREE COUNCILS HAVE\nDEBATED THE EMERGENCY BUT REFUSED TO DECLARE IT FORMALLY<\/strong>, namely :<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Derbyshire County\nCouncil (15\/05\/2019<\/a>);\nthe Council issued an alternative climate manifesto and, despite issues with\nthe Leader of the Council, some good work is being done in partnership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bolsover District\nCouncil (17\/07\/2019<\/a>);the\nmotion amended\nto debate need for motion at future date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Erewash Borough (10\/10\/2019<\/a>); Motion passed for\nnet zero by 2050; wholly complacent response. Note that lawyers from\nClientEarth have warned this council that they will violate their legal\nobligations and risk legal challenge if they do not introduce proper climate\nchange plans. It is great that all the councils have made some moves and some actions are being taken. But there is a lot more planning and lobbying to be done.
