{"id":294,"date":"2013-04-24T15:55:38","date_gmt":"2013-04-24T14:55:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/derbyclimate.org.uk\/?p=294"},"modified":"2021-01-21T15:49:59","modified_gmt":"2021-01-21T15:49:59","slug":"proposals-to-cut-staffing-on-railways-will-affect-all-of-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/derbyclimate.org.uk\/?p=294","title":{"rendered":"Proposals to cut staffing on Railways will affect all of us!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">Over the next six years train operating companies are embarking upon a new programme of cost-cutting (refer to the McNulty report <\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.networkrail.co.uk\/aspx\/12658.aspx\"><span style=\"color: #003366;\">http:\/\/www.networkrail.co.uk\/aspx\/12658.aspx<\/span><\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">) that could see:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">over 20,000 railway jobs put at risk,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">the closure of 675 ticket offices and<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">a 50 per cent increase in the number of unstaffed stations.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Train companies are driving through the cuts in an attempt to find \u00a33.5bn in efficiency\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #003366;\">savings by 2019, as requested by the government.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\">If the cuts go ahead one in ten staff currently working on the railways \u2013 including train guards, maintenance workers, and ticket office staff \u2013 could lose their jobs and around three-quarters of all the UK\u2019s railway stations could become unstaffed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\">This is not a case of creating a million climate jobs but of saving 20,000 Climate Jobs.
